We raise our children and we try to instill good values in them. If you're a parent in the way that I am, you use the Bible as your foundation. Yesterday, I took my son to a private school where he's trying to gain entrance and I was very pleased with the man he is becoming. He had to take an assessment test, I did not stay while he took the test, and I dropped him off to run errands.
When he described the test to me later, I realized it was partially an IQ test and a comprehension test, so I trust he will do quite well. I believe this because he scores high on all the State and Federal tests he takes in the public schools, which is in the top one to three percent in the nation. The school that he's applying to is a Christian preparatory school and they have very strict guidelines for entrance, there are many forms to fill out. One form he had to fill out contained an essay question. I know that he's been given a good foundation, but sometimes you wonder how much has taken root and sprung forth. Yesterday he proved to me how firm his foundation is and I was very pleased.
The answer came in the form of his essay: The question was about Jesus being tempted by the devil after fasting for 40 days. "Which of the temptations, in your opinion, were the hardest and the easiest and why: turning the stones into bread; jumping from the temple to allow the angels to catch Him; or worshipping Satan in exchange for the kingdoms and all the riches of the world? How could you apply this to your life?" My son's answer follows.
Turning the stones into bread would be the hardest temptation because Jesus was suffering from hunger pangs. He could easily have turned the stones into bread, but he had to follow what his Heavenly Father, who was his real father, wanted him to do. His Faith is what got him through. Having all the riches would be easy to turn down, because you could have all the riches in the world and still be miserable, but you could be poor and be happy with God. Many people who are rich go to hell, because they do not follow God. I could apply this to my life by following what God wants of me, because all the riches in the world will not bring me happiness and will not buy my way into heaven. I must do what my Heavenly Father wants and listen to my parents as well.
