Marine Homecoming

Posted by str8_talk on Saturday, February 09, 2008 2:18:46 AM

It seems there has been some mistaken identity due to my moniker as to my gender. It has happened numerous times, so please don't feel duped. I chose the name for anonymity around 4 years ago on another site and have been using it since on other sites as well, then McCain stole it! That theif...but to lay to rest any doubts, here is my picture...

Now, On to more serious matters and on a very happy note...It makes a Mom burst with pride to see her son come home safe and sound from his 2nd tour of duty from Iraq. He made Sgt in 3 short years, withought a college degree! Do I sound proud? Well, you BET I am! He has very high security clearance, so we don't know where he is most of the time when he is in Iraq. We just pray that God will keep him safe!

He was gone 13 mos this time and 14 mos the first time. He does get a 15 day leave for R&R at which time he visits his wife and child. The last time it was to try to make it home for the birth of my granson, his first child. He had put in his leave for 2 weeks later, but as babies decide their own timetable, he came earlier. When my son went to his CO to arrange an earlier flight, he said "NO, absolutely not!" We all prayed the his CO would change his mind; the very next day, my son was called in and told to turn in his arms, and he said "I'm not going anywhere, why?" The CO said "Don't ask, just do it and come and se me." He did as he was instructed and his officer told him "Don't ask me HOW, but you have a flight out Today! So, be ready Sgt  to go!" My son saluted and was dismissed and when he was out of sight he grinned the biggest grin that you can imagine he tells me and thought 'I know why, we've all been praying.' He made it home the day that his son was born, several hours before! He spent two glorious weeks. I had already flown out there 'just in case' and we made a great labor and delivery team. The midwife was a male Navy Lt. who knew his 'stuff' and it was my 4th time as a coach, besides my own deliveries. Does that make you believe there is a God? It should! Anway here's my video which a friend taped. We love you and are very proud to have intelligent men serving our nation. Thank you to all of our troops AND their wives and families, it takes courage and faith to have a family member in the military!

Video of Homecoming from 2nd tour - taken by a southern friend, it is a little digitally challened, but you'll get the basic exuberance they had in seeing each other and him in seeing his wife and son. Thanks to "A" for taking this, who is another Marine's wife, her husband is currently serving in Iraq: we appreciate your sacrifice!

Great video! Thank you for sharing that. It really warmed my heart, and that's not just hyperbole.

Times are so different today from my day, and I think that's just a great thing.

Let me see if I understand this correctly.
Those are pictures of YOU???????????
You have a son in the Marines?
Those aren't pictures of HIS wife?
Is that what you're saying?
I'm single. Are you? I'm also not joking.

You must be very proud of your Marine. He is a credit to his country and exemplifies all that is best about the Marine Corps. It is men like your son that makes me easy in my mind, firm in the knowledge that the Marine Corps, I love so much, is in good hands and will continue to add honor to our illustrious history.

Semper Fi!

Your "fangs" are showing in your comment of 02/09/08 at 9:55pm.
str8t_talk: Your son appears to be a fine young man. I know you are enjoying your grandson.
